Genre: Acoustic Singer-songwriter

Web: www.mattcoughlin.com
Listen: Rear-view Mirror

Bio: Matt is an out-the-gate running artist from a small town in Montana who moved to Tacoma a few years ago to attend PLU.  After earning a masters in Music and a minor in Psychology, Matt decided it was time to put his education to good work and take to the stage.  Open mics were his launching pad where he was quickly noticed and endorsed by South Sound Promotions and black-booked by Jennifer Johnson of Diamond Rock Entertainment to open for Tacoma well-knowns Vicci Martinez and LeRoy Bell.  Within weeks of hitting the scene, Matt came out with a website and a self-released CD, "The Blue Goat Rides" and sold 30 copies at his first show!

We were thrilled with the response to the showcase all-call!  Submissions came
pouring in within a few minutes of word hitting your inboxes and showed the

SHOWCASE PERFORMERS...

Host: Joshua Adams
Genre: Acoustic Singer-songwriter

Bio:
Joshua, a singer/songwriter originally from Atlanta, Georgia has been part of the Tacoma music scene for the past 5 years.  Joshua's acoustic rock style crossed with a jam band feel has
led him to perform in venues across the country.  Josh performs regularly at Panamonica's, Antique Sandwich Company, Shakabrah Java and Northern Pacific Coffee Company.

Performer: Camille Bloom
Genre: Acoustic-rock

Web: www.camillebloom.com
Listen: Within Me

"Look out Seattle, we've got a rising star here!" - Madalyn Skylar - gogirlsmusic.com

"Sultry yet powerful, Camille's music can make even the rain dance." Mike Galaxy of L.A.'s Bandpromote.com

Bio: Camille's music hooks you from the beginning. It is the kind of music that gets stuck in your head for days (like the gum you tried to chew all night long in 5th grade. Her debut CD "Within Me" delivers to its audience a wide array of sounds and moods - yet all the while, holds true to the unique and unforgettable style of Camille's music - edgy, hip, raw, honest and haunting. It is packed with a full band sound and yet personal in its delivery- combining Rock, Alternative, Folk and Funk influences into one fluid sound.

Performer: Reggie Miles
Genre: Acoustic Singer-songwriter / AC / Americana / Blues

Web: www.myspace.com/reggiemiles
Listen: Click here

Bio: “Poster boy for nonconvention” (Rod Backman)

“One part Sonny Terry, one part Tiny Tim, and three parts
Mister T!” (Amos Jessup)

But to say that Reggie is merely all of the above is to deny his lighter side. His passionate past-time penchant for unearthing obscure nonsense narrative nuggets from numerous 78rpm archives by noted, nutty, nearly unknowns like Lazy Larry, Nervous Norvus and untold others, has made Mr. Miles one of the Northwest’s favorite aficionados of funny-bone ticklin’.

Reggie fuses the influences of Leadbelly, McTell, Charley Patton, all those old blues and ragtime authors, with original songs and those of musical acquaintances. The intensity and excitement he generates reflects the raw emotion of the rural Delta blues that rocked the juke joints of the twenties and thirties. Combine Reggie’s powerful vocals and hand-built *resophonic slide guitar bottle-neckin’ with the rhythmic huffs and moans of his harmonica and you’ve got a recipe for foot stompin’.

*Resophonic: Reggie’s homemade guitar is a product of his own Frankenstinian experimentation. Constructed from pieces of door kick plate, piano soundboard, vegetable steamer, record player, table leg and baseball bat, it is a unique hybrid of both the National and Dobro acoustically amplified resonator instruments. Reggie dubs it his Nobro. He uses a sizeable frictionless marine propeller-shaft bearing as a bottleneck slide and is quick to remind those who stare, “It’s not the size of your slide, it’s the slide of your size.”

Performer: Heidi Stoermer
Genre: Acoustic Singer-songwriter / Indie-Folk

Web: www.myspace.com/heidistoermer
Listen: Click here

Bio: Growing up, Heidi Stoermer sang along to
everything from opera to bluegrass. Finally, she settled on folk and blues as main influences for the music she now writes and performs. The Weekly Volcano says, “Stoermer successfully attacks heartache, loss, and betrayal…her voice is husky, melancholy, and achingly charming.” She’s been described as “simply amazing”, and Jen Cass, a fellow musician, declares, “…[Heidi] writes songs that ache with beauty and wisdom. Her stunning voice captures every nuance…I would say she is an artist on the rise, but…one
listen and you’ll know she has already arrived.”

Performer: Tom Boros
Genre: Solo Acoustic Singer-songwriter

Web: www.tomboros.com
Listen: Bitter is Better (mp3)

Bio: Tom Boros is a 22 year old singer/songwriter, born, raised and currently residing in beautiful Olympia, WA. From a young age he was introduced to music, beginning with classical training in the piano, violin and cello. However, it was around this young age that he began indulging himself with the music of U2, Pink Floyd, the Cure, Morrisey, Radiohead, and many other progressive "pop" artists. In high school, he formed the band Pattison Tracks, along with three other like-minded individuals. A couple of EP's were released to great enthusiasm and many shows were played. However, after a couple of years, the strict confinements of a band began to wear thin on Tom's love for inspired music so he felt it would be best to work as a solo artist for the time being. His first acoustic CD has been out for about six months now, and his performances are captivating and memorable. The truth is, Tom's music does not walk stride in stride with the "cookie cutter" pop-acoustic sound, that seems to be of great prominence these days. The music is intense, passionate and melodic, but yet very inviting and appealing. Being unique is a very important ingredient these days, if you want to stand out from the rest of the crowd....and Tom Boros is well on his way. All he needs is the opportunity to share his gifts, along with all the other great artists, on a stage that allows him to exercise his full potential.

Performer: Eileen Hemphill-Haley
Genre: Acoustic-Americana / Folk-rock

Web: www.EHHMusic.com
Listen: Our Kind of Story

“EH-H writes songs with bone and sinew as well as heart, with characters that breathe and stories that ring true” - Frank Gosar, KLCC FM

Bio: Eileen Hemphill-Haley was born down south, lives out west, and has a mind that wanders to wherever a good story lines up with a strong melody.

As an artist, EH-H tends to focus on the inevitable effects of human nature, how personalities repel, enhance or enliven one another -- what she calls ""the reactor fuel of relationships."" She then belts out her views in a musical style best described as “story-oriented folk rock.” What does that mean? It means characters in action in her songs, making themselves seen and heard in the imagination.

ALEX
GALLAGHER

Performer: Alex Gallagher
Genre:
Country / Alt. Country

Bio:
Sixteen year old Alex Gallagher of Monroe, Washington has already made a name for himself.  In addition to being selected as one of the 35 finalists in the "Gimme the Mike 2" competition (airing in March & April), and by playing the notable Relay for Life cancer fundraiser.  Alex also has played benefits, business open-house events, school assemblies, many open mics in the local area, and even holds a few weekly restaurant gigs.  Music is his overwhelming passion and he hopes to achieve a career in writing, recording, and performing his own music.

Performer: Jeanlizabeth
Genre: Acoustic AC

Web: www.jeanlizabeth.com
Listen: Without A Friend Like You

Bio: Jeanlizabeth is soon to release her 2nd CD this 2005 with the full anticipation audiences and listeners will love it! Originally hitting the Olympia music scene in 1999, Jeanlizabeth has enjoyed playing local venues and special events throughout the Puget Sound region. Her music has grown from the very heartfelt sad tunes, to more recent energetic storytellings. Influenced by a little bit of everything, she is one who brings a variety of genres to the stage.

Performer: Dave Lemon
Genre: Rock / Power-pop

Web: www.davelemon.com
Listen: Relax

Bio: In 2004, Dave Lemon recorded his debut cd titled Stumble In. His music has a power-pop/pop-punk vibe that reverberates with memorable lyrics, which sometimes contain dark undercurrents amongst a tide of melodic energy. He highlights quirky stories and perceptions of life’s funny moments with a black humor slant. Overall, DL's music celebrates good times and also reflects some low points in life with a stream of continuity. Dave Lemon is currently promoting his debut release on his label, Off The Vine Records. Dave Lemon is playing a mix of both solo shows and backed with a trio as Dave Lemon Band.

After several years of playing open mics and solo gigs on the Monterey Peninsula, Dave transplanted to Seattle in 1996. Dave’s affinity for outdoor recreation led him to the northwest. And Seattle’s bustling music scene supported his artistic endeavors up to present days. He has had previous works used in action surf videos and continues to build a loyal fan base. "

Performer: Dylan The Cellar Door
Genre: Acoustic Singer-songwriter

Bio: Recently arriving in the Tacoma music scene, Dylan has been incredibly impressed with the community and professionalism of musicians and those in the music business.  He left the Navy in 2003 to pursue a career of being a full-time musician.  After over a year of frustration in the Florida music scene he made his way to the Pacific Northwest, a more understanding scene for singer-songwriters.  He can be found hosting the open mic at Jazzbones Monday evenings
(5:00 - 7:30), as well as playing live nearly six nights a week in Tacoma, Olympia and Seattle. He frequently plays Pub 54, Up the Creek and Fenders.

Performer: Paula Maya (solo)
Genre: Rock / Singer-songwriter / Brazilian

Web: www.paulamaya.com
Listen: Angels

Bio: Paula Maya is a stellar bi-lingual singer, keyboardist and songwriter. Originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, residing in Seattle for the past few years, her sound is very unique. She mixes Rock/Pop with Brazilian music and other music styles such as Blues and SKA.  Paula can be found around the Sound with he All-Star band including Ben Smith (Heart) on drums,
Pat Hewitt (Doug Kershaw) on guitar and Dave Pascal (The Platters) on bass.

Performer: Doug "Hometown Celebrity" Mackey
Genre: Solo-eclectic

Web: www.moonyard.com

Bio: Doug Mackey writes and sings original music that defies easy categorization. Influenced primarily by classic rock (i.e.—The Who, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Doors…)--though Charles Ives and Monty Python figure into the mix--his live shows owe just as much to his union acting creds. Songs range from the plaintive to the absurd, from cows to murder, from love to lust, from storytelling to impressionistic oddities. Eclectic, one might say. Until recently, Doug fronted the band MOON YARD (formerly “Mr. Blackwatch”), and now wishes to record and put a new band together comprised, as he says, of “badasses”.

Performer: Casey Garland

Genre: AC / Soft Rock / Singer-Songwriter

Web: http://www.riverpeople.com/music/

Listen: Desolation Sounds

Bio: At 53 years old, Casey Garland, a veteran whitewater river rafting outfitter and guide, enters the music scene well past his expiration date. Hey, think George Burns! A guitarist and songwriter, Casey’s upcoming debut CD “The River Keeps on Flowing” is a compilation of well-crafted songs that broadly use the river as a metaphor and reflect a variety of observations from 3 decades of life spent plying wild waters. Style wise he’s all over the map with pop, soft rock, folk, blues and ballads. Teamed up with some great studio musicians, this collaborative effort goes by the name of “The River People”.

Performer: Dean Moller, of Stranger by the Minute
Genre: Blues / Jazz

Web: www.strangerbytheminute.com
Listen: Eyes of a Dancer

Bio: "Dean's lyrics are drawn from a smoky stew of love, lust, alcohol and the blues, served in a 3 A.M.-after-the-party atmosphere of reflection and melancholy nostalgia" - Alan Moore, LovesLaborMusic

Dean Moller has been playing music in Seattle for the last 20 years, he's written over 200 songs, has a new CD out named (Shameless Nights), has written the theme song for the documentary Firsthand Music, and continues to write. He's been playing the last 3 years in Stranger by the Minute.

Performer: Robbie Walden
Genre: Acoustic / Acoustic-Pop-Emo

Web: www.robbiewalden.hearusplay.com
Listen: Comfortable

Bio: Robbie Walden recently signed with Rick Bacchus of Bacchus Music, one of the most respected and requested producers in pop music who wrote most of the Back Street Boys songs and produced all of their albums.  Bacchus has also produced and written for Norah Jones and Alicia Keys, and has written for Justin Timberlake, Chicago and many others.

Performer: Kenny Wayne Gunner
Genre: Solo Electrific

Bio: Kenny, a Tacoma resident, is currently featured on a Sleep Country USA commercial and recently played for Jason Hendrix's birthday party.  Kenny is a full-time musician who has earned the loyalty of a large fan base by pioneering electric-guitar busking nearly 7 days a week on the streets of Seattle.

Performer: Jeremy Silas - solo
Genre: Spoken Word / Singer-songwriter

Bio: Fine Artist, Abstract Painter, Poet, Lyricist, Singer, Melody Maker originally from California now living and working in Tacoma, WA.  Jeremy's music is a mix of original poetry, with splashes of world-music, dashes of folk, hints of alternative rock, and tints of jazz, R&B, and Reggae.

Performer: Elemental Orgy
Genre: Instrumental / Rock / Pagan

Web: www.oz.net/~dburch
